Why AI-Native Doesn't Mean AI-First

Every product claims to be AI-native now. Most of them just added a chat widget.

Real AI-native software rethinks the workflow from the ground up: what used to require a form now happens through intent, what used to require a dashboard now happens through a summary. The model isn't a feature bolted onto the side — it's part of the core interaction loop.

That distinction matters because it changes how you architect the system. AI-native products need observability into model behavior, graceful fallbacks when the model is uncertain, and UX that sets the right expectations about what the system can and can't do.
